Neuroplasticity Series

Acrylic on Linen Canvas, 2016

The Siegel and Bryson book "The Whole-Brain Child", Doidge's "The Brain that Changes Itself" and Arrowsmith-Young's "The Woman who Changed her Brain" all inspired me to feel that there's hope in my brain patterns (and those of my family) finding new pathways, no matter how old we are.

The paintings have almost been a precursor to the studies I am now undertaking in Neuro-Training and Kinesiology, which are magnificently fuelling me with various skills with which to see actual changes in my behaviour and experience of living.

These paintings, like most recent artwork of mine, emerged via a gestalt-like play in such a way as I find meaning or metaphors emerge as the process unfolds, in this case via manipulating how paint, water and ink flows along previously laid "tracks", how "flooding" the canvas with water and wiping it with a rag, as well as waiting for periods of time, allow for new pathways to be formed... just as in life, cathartic (flooding) experiences, meditation (waiting) and some type of clearing process (wiping) helps to create new pathways in our brains or life!
